Target -- Tostitos chips for cheap!

I almost can't believe this worked. I've been rockin' busy today -- running around shopping & trying to get it all "done" today. Are we ever really done though??

Target has this sale on the front cover of this week's ad. This involved doing a price match with the Walgreens ad (also on the front cover) -- remember to take the entire ad with you to the Target CS desk.

Here is a deal I did at Target this morning:

Buy 2 Tostitos at 2/$5 and get a FREE salsa

2 Tostitos chips
$1.99 ea w/ Walgreens price match
1 Tostitos salsa
$1/1 IP here when buy 1 Tostitos chip & 1 salsa

Final price $2.98 for 2 chips & 1 Salsa

So, I just split the cost for each item -- $1 each! SWEET!

I was able to use this IP coupon today. I think using it will depend on the CS clerk you get when doing this transaction.

Tribune vs. Statesman inserts 8/30

Hey all! It's another super busy day for me! I won't have any more posts until late tonight -- sorry about that. Yesterday, I created a post to tell you all I wouldn't have anything....and then got onto projects & never "posted" it to the blog. Pffftt! Urrrgh! I've just got so much to accomplish this weekend that something has to give...

So, without further ado -- there wasn't must difference this week!

Both papers got the three Albs doublers. Both papers got three inserts.

This is the only difference....and that's not saying much! LOL!

Freds -- another e-coupon purchase!

Yep, it's a learning experience. Yesterday's transaction was something else. Not good or bad -- maybe a little confusing & certainly gained experience with this.

I loaded my FM M/C with the e-coupons I wanted to use, printed my e-coupon shopping lists and made sure I had all the IP / MQ ready to go. I created my item shopping list (with a few alternative items...just in case) showing what coupons I expected to use and hustled my way over to Freds. It was a beautiful day, and I was ready to rock.

Let me say this -- THANK YOU Tabitha for your help! I explained what I was doing / testing to Tabitha so she wouldn't be caught off guard. As it turns out, she was a great help & as interested as I was in seeing how it would work.

I purposefully went through the self-check at the Freds with my items so I could see the screen up close & personal. I also only had 10 items 'cause I was trying for another 500pts. I only bought items that would have both a IP or MQ coupon and an e-coupon -- honestly, I'm not sure if I got the "best" price on these items, but for this transaction, that was secondary. I can hear the *gasps* of horror from here. I know! I know! Horrors of horrors!

Here's my transaction:

Total OOP $11.78 ($13.22)

2 Nature Valley Nut Clusters
1 Chex Mix bars
1 Fiber One bars
3 Hamburger Helper
1 Betty Crocker cookie mix
2 Pillsbury Grands biscuits

Gained 500 pts = $5 in FM coupons

I can't remember the last time I bought biscuits in a can...and I don't think I've ever purchased cookie mix in a bag. Yeah, the things we do when testing a new system out! LOL!

Not all the e-coupons worked as I expected, but hey, they're working so I'm happy. I did get my first attempt at this transaction so jacked up I had to cancel it & start over. Pffft!

Here's the deal -- heads up! If you have more than one e-coupon on your card for the same "family" of items, it doesn't necessarily use the e-coupon you expect. I had loaded a $1/2 Pillsbury Grands EQ and a $0.40/2 Pillsbury sweet rolls EQ. I know I bought the Grands biscuits, but the only e-coupon that would come off the transaction was the $0.40 EQ. Dang! I might try to test this again by buying sweet rolls & see if the grands $1/2 EQ gets used.

To get the Cellfire e-coupons go here.
To get the Shortcuts.com e-coupons go here.

Here's how the pricing worked:

Nature Valley Nut Clusters $2.50
$1/1 CFire EQ
$1/1 IP here
Final Price $0.50 on 1st bag -- $1.50 on 2nd bag

(only one EQ came off for the Nut Clusters. I thought I had loaded two when I switched everything over to the FM M/C. I don't see anything as redeemed yet, so I don't know what happened here)

Chex Mix bars $2.50
$0.60 Scuts EQ
$0.60/1 IP here
Final Price $1.30

Fiber One bars $2.50
$0.40/1 SCuts EQ
$0.40/1 IP here
Final price $1.70

Hamburger Helper $1.25
$0.75/3 SCuts EQ
$0.75/3 IP here
Final Price $0.75

Betty Crocker cookie mix $2.00
$0.40/1 CFire EQ
$0.40/1 IP here
Final Price $1.20

Pillsbury Grands biscuits $2.49
$0.40/1 CFire EQ
$1/2 IP here
Final Price $1.79
(this price should have been $1.49 if the correct EQ had been used...pffft!)

I "somehow" got 11 items on this transaction. So, that's why the cash -- I had to get the "extra" item returned for cash back.

It's the week for Fred Meyer posts, that's for sure! I don't think there is much that will top the Gossip about Fred Meyer accepting competitors coupons including Albertsons doublers though.

Fred Meyer (and all members of the Kroger family) are having a BIG Gas and Grocery Sweeps. Spin the wheel every day to win. There are over 5,000 instant win prizes ranging from a $5 gift card to a Diamond Pendant. There will also be a $4,862 Grand Prize. Enter daily thru Sept 11, 2009.

Freds -- e-coupons on FM rewards card

I was serious about this week being all about Freds for me! This is another lengthly post full of information, so please hang in there.

There is some awesome information HERE on La Vida Cheapo's blog on how to load mfg. e-coupons on the Freds rewards card. This gal is really taking advantage of doublers and e-coupons (Spokane gets to double up to $1 at their Freds! Oh, the envy!)

I've spent the last few days after work -- yep, squeezing that in for sure! -- working with the Nampa Freds on how the e-coupons work, what works & doesn't, how to enter them in when using a Albs doubler, etc. It has been interesting & they have been awesome to work with. A big thank you to Kari for trying this out -- we've done more manager overrides in the past few days to get us out of our testing then I think she's done in the entire year!

So, what is this? Well, as Freds is a part of the Kroger operation, they all share the same computer system. This means the mfg. e-coupons that work on the Kroger card will also work on the Freds rewards card. The Kroger store e-coupons will also work at Freds.

I used the Kroger website and the store locator to find a zipcode I could use when loading e-coupons. If you use TX as the search state, you should get some choices. So far, I have found the e-coupons will load on either the FM rewards card or the FM credit card.

Here are the sites I've used to load e-coupons to the FM card:

P&G eSaver -- these are P&G coupons (obviously). This one needs to be a Kroger store / zip code. It appears you can only load one card.

Shortcuts.com --these are various coupons kinda like we can get off coupons.com. There are also Kroger store coupons on this site. This site will allow you to have multiple cards for the same store. This one needs to be a Kroger store / zip code.

Unilever -- obvious the kind of coupons. This one needs to be a Kroger store / zip code. It appears you can only load one card.

Cellfire -- this site requires a cell phone # to use it. I tried entering a land line ph# (thinking that some folks don't have a cell phone), and it wouldn't work. This one needs to be a Kroger store / zip code. It appears you can only load one card.

Upromise eCoupons -- this site is the only one that says Fred Meyers is a participating store. However, I'm still testing this one. I haven't gotten any coupons to work from this site yet.

**UPDATE on UPromise** Thank goodness for you guys! A reader, Jessica, straightened me out on this one! Whoot!
Jessica said...

Just as a little FYI, I have been using the Upromise ecoupons for some time at Fred Meyer and Albertsons. The way they work is they do not actually come off your total, but the savings rather go into your Upromise account and are saved for you there. Hope that helps. They always seem to work for me that way.

Here are the FAQ regarding e-coupons:
(some of this we discovered when we did our testing)

What stores are the common participating e-coupon stores?
The stores are Kroger, Ralphs, King Soopers, Fry's, Smith's, Dillons, QFC, JayC, and City Market. For those of us in Idaho, we get to use Fred Meyers.

How can I view the coupons that are available to load to my shopper card?
This will vary by site. Most have a “view all coupons” link from the Home Page.

Can I remove coupons from my shopper card without spending them?
No, once coupons have been entered onto your card, they can't be removed. They will remain on the card until they expire or you redeem them.

Can I load multiples of a coupon onto my shopper card?
No, each coupon may only be loaded once.

Can I load the same coupon onto different shopper cards?
No, each coupon may only be loaded onto one card at a time. If two sites have the same coupon, you can load both of them onto the same card.

How long does it take until my coupons are active on my card once I enter them?
It takes up to one hour before the coupons are available on your card to redeem at your retail store. I would play it safe and load your e-coupons at least the night before your shopping trip.

What happens if my discount did not apply when I purchased my product at the store?
If your discount was not applied properly, contact the site’s customer service for assistance. This may be a little difficult as Freds isn’t listed as a participating store. However, when you call, all they can tell you is “no.” It doesn’t hurt to ask.

How can I view coupons loaded on my shoppers card?
If you choose a link or page labeled something like “My Coupons,” that should show you what coupons you have selected for your card. This is a by site list. From what I've found, there is no global list for what e-coupons you have loaded.

Can I print my coupons or get a list of them?
All the sites seem to have the ability to print a shopping list. This will show you your coupons and typically list the expiration date too.

How many e-coupons can I load on my card?
From what I’ve been able to find, the limit is 50 coupons. SO BE CAREFUL when loading coupons onto the card since you can’t remove them.

What happens if I load a e-coupon accidentally on my card?
Oh, well. You will have it until it expires or you use it. I’ve found I could delete the card and start over – but it may take a bit of magic to get that to work. For example, CellFire will require you to use a new cell phone # if you end up having to create a whole new account.

How long does it take for the e-coupon to show as redeemed?
It will take two or three days for the coupon to show as redeemed.

Can I use an e-coupon with a MQ printed coupon or IP coupon?
Yes, you can. This is the way it is currently working at Freds. From what I’ve been told, e-coupons have always worked this way. If Freds changes this in their computer system, as soon as I know, I’ll let you know.

Can I use an e-coupon with a store coupon?
Yes, you can.

When will my e-coupons come off the transaction?
The e-coupons will come off the transaction when you go to pay (at the end). So don’t scan an item and expect to see the coupon as the next line item. You will have to scan the Freds rewards card sometime during the transaction too (obviously).

Can I use a (Albs) doubler with an e-coupon?
Yes, you can. The difference here is since the e-coupon isn’t a physical coupon, you will need to be aware of the coupon / amount you want to double and show the clerk which one to double (yep, point to the screen). As long as the e-coupon is $0.50 or less (limited participation stores in ID and OR), then you shouldn’t have any problems.

Can I use a Kroger store e-coupon at Freds?
Yes, you can. The test we ran was a Kroger store e-coupon with the FM brand salad dressing, and it worked.

If there is something I didn't answer -- or something you discover about e-coupons -- please let me know! I think this is an awesome opportunity, and I hope many of you can take advantage of it. I am totally interested in hearing how this works for you guys. I'll have my e-coupon transactions I did this week up either tonight or tomorrow.

Please also know I've been doing this at the Nampa Freds. I know this works at the Boise Freds (my buddy Janet has tested this), but who knows how they will react since they don't even understand their own competitor coupon policy. Again, any positive or negative experiences -- please share! This is a learning experience for us all! Good luck!!

Freds -- competitor coupons & doublers

This post is a little long and contains lots of information, so hang tight.

Freds has a new policy dated May 5, 2009 which outlines how they will approach competitor coupons and other store doublers (namely, for us, the Albs doublers). I've known about this policy since May, but at the request of Freds, I haven't posted anything regarding it. You know it's been totally KILLIN' me. I mean -- what is my site all about but the unadvertised stuff and gossip?!

Freds wanted time to review their stocking methods, and work through this policy before it became common knowledge. I've really stressed how couponers buy and how this policy can drive business if supported correctly. I thought the extra time would help, and I believe now it's time to talk about it. My biggest fear is this policy would be out there with all sorts of bad information -- or an assumption the Idaho Freds work the same as other states -- and lead to bad experiences at the store.

Freds coupon policy is not published, but you can get a copy of it if you ask. I got a copy from the Nampa Freds without any problems. However, the Boise stores don't appear to be aware of this newer policy and in fact have told one of my friends it's a fake. No, folks, it isn't. This is definitely one coupon policy you will want in your binder.

I've already spoken with the Area Operations Manager in Boise regarding this policy -- more than once actually. When he is back next week, I will also let him know this newest development of a "fake" policy. Whatever. The stores we will shop in Idaho have a limited acceptance (rules) for competitor coupons but do in fact take them AND doublers.

So, what is the big deal? Here is the overview of the Freds policy:

Stores with limited acceptance:
Oregon -- Brookings, Coos Bay, Santa Clara, Springfield, The Dallas, West Eugene
Idaho -- Idaho Boise, Idaho Glenwood, Meridian, Nampa

In select market areas, Fred Meyer accepts competitor's food coupons from newspapers, flyers and booklets.

Fred Meyer does NOT accept food competitor's "off total order" coupons, i.e. $10 off a $50 or more purchase.

Coupons that require the customer to use the competitor's loyalty or club card in order to redeem the coupon will NOT be accepted at Fred Meyer.

The following restrictions apply for each transaction:

  1. Maximum of two item coupons (price point and/or cents-off)
  2. Limit of four double coupons -- up to $0.50 off MQ coupon can be doubled
  3. Expiration date and limit restrictions printed on each coupon apply
  4. Price point or cents-off coupons may be combined with MQ
  5. Private label items can be substituted with FM Private Label item of the same quality, count, or size.

I've used doublers successfully at the Nampa Fred Meyer. The next time I do, I will show that transaction to you all.

I have to say the Nampa Freds is really customer service orientated and coupon friendly. If you want to try this out, take your business there. Seriously. The folks at the Nampa Freds actually read and follow the corporate policies.

Walmart -- price matching fruit -- yikes!

Last week (on my crazy Thursday), I had also decided to try to price match fruit at the ID Center Walmart in Nampa using the Target $0.50 off 1 lb or more bananas and $1.00 off 1 lb or more apples. These coupons expired on 8/22 so I had to try it soon or not at all. Target does have another coupon out here for $0.50 off 1 lb or more bananas that expires 9/5.

Here's my transaction:

Total OOP $6.01 ($6.68 w/tax)

2 Silk Soy Milk 1/2 gallon
6 candy bars
1 bunch of bananas, 4.19 lbs
4 apples, 1.76 lbs

So, what happened? Well, check out the receipt for the attempts to get this one right! The folks at Walmart were so willing to help and they really wanted too -- that part was awesome. What I didn't know going into this was on produce, Walmart's computer apparently won't just allow them to take $0.50 off the item. Nope. We had to figure out the new price per lb. for the produce ourselves -- good thing I carry a calculator! Jeez!

So, that's a word to the wise -- be ready to help figure this one out. Most of the cashiers won't have a calculator handy. Let them ring up the item so you have the total $ amount and exact lbs. Cancel that line on the ticket. Take the total $ minus the coupon and divide by the # of lbs. Pretty easy -- but it's all manual to get it done.

Read More to see the pricing breakdown & receipt...

Pricing breakdown:

Silk Soy Milk, 1/2 gallon $2.74
$0.50/1 Target Q for price match (exp. 8/22)
$0.75/1 IP here
Final Price $1.49

Bananas $0.47 per lb
$0.50/1 lb or more Target IP here
Final Price $0.35 per lb

Apples $1.00 per lb
$1.00/1 lb or more Target IP (exp. 8/22)
Final Price $0.57 per lb

(this was actually the wrong price -- it should have been $0.43 per lb -- when I told the cashier the amount of $0.57 I meant them to take that from the original $1.00 per lb. However, at this point in the transaction, it was better to just keep moving!)

Mars candy bars $0.64
$1/2 Mars coupon -- expired 8/23
2 coupons from Mars Choc. Relief promo
Final Price $0.09 each

(I was okay with this price even though the candy wasn't free. For me, I made the right call on getting it then because I didn't make it back to Walmart or Walgreens before the coupon expired.)

Tribune vs. Statesman inserts 8/23

I thought last weekend would be my last time getting both papers. However, my Tribune subscription is paid up for a couple more weeks, so I'll just let it run until then.

Again this week the Red Plum inserts matched between the papers. Both the Tribune and Statesman got 3 Albs doublers. I got more coupons in the Statesman Smart Source:

$0.75/2 Betty Crocker Supreme Brownie Mixes
$1/2 GM Cereals
$1/1 Nature Valley Granola Nut Clusters
$1/1 Yoplait Delights Yogurt Multipack

Albs -- Post cereal

Wondered where the blueberry Post Select cereal is? Yeah, me too! I really thought the Nampa 12th street store would have it in by now....jeez. I found out the Albs warehouse isn't shipping it!

You: Why isn't the warehouse shipping it?
Me: Great question.
You: You gonna answer it or what?!
Me: Maybe.
You: (taking out frying pan)
Me: *gulp* Okay, okay!

A little birdie told me there is going to be a killer Post cereal sale starting next week Wed. So, the store is getting in their order for that, and that's why no previous shipments are getting filled. The store should get that shipment on Sunday or Monday. If you're like me trying to find the blueberry cereal, that's what I know about it.

Albs -- my CATs bought cheap meat!

Somehow...I ended up with $30 in CATs. I'm not 100% sure how...I think it was from all the transactions Cynthia and I split -- one would keep the CATs and pay the other. However it happened, I had to get them used up by today! (And yes, I do mean 8/21 -- you can stop the grinning now! LOL! I really did turn off the warp drive!) I redid this post to put all the meat and receipts together.

I love turning my CATs into really cheap or free meat. I also lucked out -- I got an additional $2 off $10 meat CAT when I did my first meat purchase! SWEET! Talk about great timing.

Here's how the transactions worked for me:

Trx #1 -- Total OOP $0.92 ($1.88 w/tax)
8 lbs of hamburger

Trx #2 -- Total OOP $2.84 ($3.91 w/tax)
13.31 lbs of pork chops

So, this made my hamburger pretty darn cheap -- $0.24 per lb. I was lucky enough to find some hamburger on markdown that first night!

The bought the "assorted" pork chops on sale right now for $1.49 lb. You really have to try and pick a good pkg. of those -- some just look like slabs of pork and no "chop" in site. I used the additional $2 CAT on this transaction. It made my pork chops $0.29 per lb.

I've got a little work ahead of me to wrap them for the freezer -- will get that done tonight after work -- but hey! totally worth it for the price!

Freds -- SOBE $0.50 and lettuce $0.59!

SOBE is part of the 500 pt. promo Freds is currently running. This means you get $5 in coupons to use at Freds automatically when you buy 10 SOBE; the current promotion period ends 10/24/09. So, really on the SOBE you'd have a net OOP of $0.00 if you do this transaction, but ya'll know I don't count the money before it's used in a transaction.

The SOBE is on sale in this week's ad through tomorrow 8/22. They might very well be this same price next week too as they are one of the participating items, but ya never know.

Check out Coupon Gossip Mobile for the Freds stock update I got from the grocery manager today.

Here's my transaction:

Total OOP $6.18 ($6.85 w/tax)

10 bottles of SOBE
2 heads of lettuce

Here's the pricing break down:

SOBE drink $1.00
B1G1 Free IP here
Final Price $0.50

Lettuce per head $0.59 (first two)

Freds -- store credit card & $40 gift

I hesitated for a long time getting a Fred Meyer credit card. I just don't want another bill I need to keep track of manually -- store credit cards being a pain -- THEN I found out the Fred Meyer card transactions will download into Quicken. SOLD!

I signed up online here. It was really quick and painless. The card showed up in the mail this week with my $40 gift certificate inside. So, Fred Meyer just paid me to shop at their store. Gotta love that! PLUS, I now will earn double points for everything I buy at the store!

So, what is my plan? It will be easy to keep track of my spending by receipts -- but if I lose one -- for me, the balance will be right in Quicken. Also, at any time I can check my balance or make a payment online here. This will work if you pay your bills through your bank too.

To keep this credit card "acting" like a debit card, my plan is to make a payment each week on the card for whatever I've spent. That way, the balance won't get out of hand, and it will be equivalent to still using my debit card for grocery purchases.

Just me & Spock -- time warp!

WOW! Okay, so here's an embarrassing moment I have to confess. All the posts I had scheduled for yesterday 8/20... yeah, those? As in -- NO posts hit my blog yesterday...well...apparently I thought it was going to be 8/21 yesterday. Yep -- Thursday just didn't exist for me. I just decided to skip that day & time warp myself into the future!

What's that phrase? Going where no man has gone before? Yeah, I eagerly engaged my warp engines and landed in today.

Is everyone laughing now? Man, you so should be! Yikes! So, hang in there folks. I've got some revamping to do & will get stuff posted today!

Great googlie mooglie!

VOTE -- new layout results & TEST!

Thank you to everyone who voted on the new layout. There was only one 'dislike' vote but no information on what that person didn't like. So, heck, I can't try to improve what I don't know about.

Seriously, folks. If I'm asking a question, it's because I really want to know the answer...and no, not 'cause I'm just trying to improve my typing skills...and yes, even from my "lurkers" out there who read this blog but don't interact with it...at least, not much that is. *smile*

TEST #2 for my readers has arrived!

You all responded my first test to see if anyone really read my posts.

Do you like a blog that does giveaways?
Do you like coupons for FREE stuff?
What is the most outrageous thing you'd do or have done for a giveaway?

If I really get into this giveaway trend, I don't want to make it just a "run of the mill" giveaway or do what all the other blogs are doing! Shoot! We should all have fun with it! Ideas and suggestions are most welcome!

Thank you all!

Freds -- Item List 500 pt. bonus promo!

At first, I thought I might do a price comparison for the items on the 500 pt. bonus promo...and then I got my hands on the list! HOLY COW! I got this list because it doesn't have any prices on it. It is also sorted by UPC code -- which means finding your particular item will be a little challenging!

Go HERE to see the full .pdf list of items. Think of this promo like getting a $5 rebate when you buy 10 participating items.
(If you didn't know, earning 500 pts in one quarter = $5 in coupons using Fred Meyers card).

Here is a summary -- to the best of my ability -- of the items on promo. If you take a peek at the .pdf file, you'll know what I mean. Whew!! At least this will give you an idea of what coupons to gather up & what to shop for when you head to Fred Meyers! Good luck!

If I get time, I'll try to match up coupons with this list...but honestly, right now, I'm cooked! Man, oh, man! If you find something I missed, please leave a post & let me know. After awhile, it all started running together! *smile*
