Baskin-Robbins 31c scoop night

Wednesday, 4/28/10 is 31c scoop night at Baskin-Robbins. Between 5pm-10pm, all 2.5 oz scoops will be 31c (plus tax) at participating locations (limit 3 scoops per person). This promotion is in honor of America's firefighters and Baskin-Robbins will be making a $100,000 donation to the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation. You may also have a chance to make a donation to local fire charities.

I'm Back!

Actually, I've been back - but it's been really busy at work and I haven't had time to post. And, to be honest, most of the blogs were covering the stuff I found.

Mom is doing REALLY well. She's done with radiation and now just has 3 more weeks of chemo sessions - which translates into 9 more weeks before she's done, with the recovery weeks in between. The radiation burns on her gums are healing and she can finally eat again! (I bought KFC mashed potatoes and gravy for her every day I was there, just to get something in her). I'll probably go down in mid-April, but more for a visit than for a caregiver session.

So, thanks for all the prayers and healing thoughts. When I talked with her the other day, she actually sounded like her old self!!!!!!!!!

No posts for a few days

I am leaving for California in the morning to help care for my mom, who is ill. I probably won't be posting till next week (unless I run across some awesome deal while I'm there). Please keep my mom in your prayers and I hope you find lots of good deals while I'm gone.

Kohl's Cares For Kids Scholarships

Kohl's has an awesome program that puts money back into the community, called Kohl's Cares For Kids. The sale of the children's books ($5 each) and the matching stuffed animals (also $5 each) is what funds the program.

One of the things that is done is that Kids Who Care program, which recognizes and rewards young volunteers, ages 6-18. This year, they will be recognizing 2,100 kids (at least one from each store) and rewarding them with either $50 gift cards, or scholarships ranging from $1,000 to $10,000. Unfortunately for me, employees children are not eligible.

To fill out the nomination form go here. Once the nominator has registered, he/she will begin by filling out a form with the child's name, etc. Then there are essays about what volunteer work the child has completed. It's prety simple, really.

Ingredient Archive - Earthbound Farm

Next time you have a brain-freeze on what to fix for dinner, or see a fresh item at a good price that you would like to buy, try the Earthbound Farm Ingredient Archive. If you've never been to their website, it's pretty informative.

For example, this week Fred Meyer has asparagus on sale for a great price ($1.28/lb, I THINK). Click on the Ingredient Archive and up comes an alphabetical list of fruits and veggies. Click on asparagus and and there are links to 7 recipes that range from soup to main dish to veggie alone as well as a write-up about the vegetable. While this is an organic website, you don't have to buy organic to make the dishes (I won't anyway). I'm thinking about adding shrimp to the linguine with asparagus recipe to have an "all-in-one" meal tonight.

So, next time you're looking for a recipe, try this site. Recipes are from chef's, and if you like preparation videos, they have those too.

Head over to Delicous Living's eCoupon site for 3 pages of coupons that include $1/2 Earthbound Farm products, 50c on Minute Rice Ready-to-Serve, various Chef's Requested meats (found at Walmart, I believe), 50c on Skinny Water (that name cracks me up!), $1 on Terra Chips and $1 on Garden of Eatin' products. If you have never printed from this site, you will need to download a plug in. It's nice to see more coupons for healthier products!

With baseball, softball and lacrosse seasons upon us, this sounds like a great offer!

They even have an online coupon ($1/2) to get you started! Or, look on page 136 of the March 26th issue of All You Magazine (found only at Walmart) for a $1 coupon and the same rebate form. I think Albertson's puts these on sale for $1 on occasion, so watch for those sales! I have no idea how much a bag costs at Walmart.

Test Drive a 2011 Kia Sorrento

Test drive a 2011 Kia Sorrento, get a $25 prepaid Visa card. Yep, you read that right! How do you do it? Go here and fill out and print the form. Take it to your local Kia dealer (Dennis Dillon on Orchard/Freeway) or Nampa Kia (near the Idaho Center). Test drive the car and have the dealer sign it. Mail it in and you'll get a $25 Visa card. It's that simple! When I go, I generally tell the salesman that I'm not interested in buying right now - maybe a year from now. The dealers don't want to put extra miles on their cars, so they usually just sign the form. Sometimes though, you do have to drive. Test drive between 2/8/10 and 3/15/10. Make sure you fill out the form with the information of the person who will be doing the test drive. One per household.

If you are an old-time frugal person like me, you remember the days, just a few years ago, when it seemed like every car manufacturer was doing a promotion like this. I remember getting the first Shrek video for test driving a car, getting a Staples gift card for a test drive (a Saturn I think it was), plus a few gift certificates at giftcertificates.com (mazda) that I used to get gift cards for Foot Locker for my son. I sure have missed those days.

If this interests you, you are going to want to jump on it, because there are only a limited number of forms and once they are gone, the offer is generally pulled.

Music Download: Workout Mixes

My dd has an IPOD and she gave me an MP3 player for Christmas, so I'm always on the lookout for free music. She does get the majority of her music from the library, but I'm still always looking. When I saw this post at Common Sense with Money, I was pretty excited - these are current songs! We haven't done the download yet, but I looked at the preview and it's 60 minutes of music, called the Biggest Loser and Subway Workout Mix and would be $9.95 to purchase, if you didn't take advantage of the free download. Artists include: Lady Gaga, Rhiannon, Taylor Swift, Kayne West and others (12 tracks in all). BPM rate on all songs is 128, so this would be a good workout.

Brita Water Pitcher only $3 at Lowe's

UPDATE: I went to Lowe's on Eagle Road and Ustick last night - the pitchers were in fact $8 and I scored two of them. The coupon didn't want to scan, but they just changed the price to $3 each. Pitcher comes with one filter. Three-pks of filters were about $15 - so it's just like toner cartridges - they suck you in with the cheap price and you pay more later. LOL It's ok, we will use it on our trip back east this summer if we drive and take our trailer.

Word on the street is that Lowe's (the hardware store) has Brita pitchers on sale for $8. Get the $5 coupon (bricks, can print twice) here at the Filterforgood.com website after taking the pledge. That would make the pitcher only $3!!!!!!! There is also a coupon at the same site for $1 off a filter. I have not purchased any of these items, so I don't know the regular cost of the pitcher or the filter, but it sounds like a great deal to me!!!!!!!!!!!

75c Malt-o-Meal coupon

I received an email from Malt-o-Meal with a 75c coupon (bricks) in it. Go here to print (or here and answer the question about how you are reducing your carbon footprint).

You can find Malt-o-Meal cereal at Fred Meyer and Walmart, I don't know if Albertsons and Winco carry it. Coupon may not get you free cereal, but it will help.

Lowe's 10% coupon

Need any supplies at Lowe's? Here's a link to get a 10% off coupon on purchases up to $5,000. There are restrictions (of course) that include gift cards and prior purchases. Fill out the form and the coupon will be sent to you via email within 3-7 days. Lowe's should have some good sales in the next few weeks on items such as totes, hangers, etc (part of the annual new year cleanup stuff), so the 10% should make a helpful dent in the prices.

Don't forget, Home Depot honors Lowe's coupons, and vice versa.

Back in town

Hope you all had a Merry Christmas. We got back in town after a 14 hour drive yesterday - our grandson was a great traveler, but you can only sit in a car seat for SO LONG! My brother and his family have us beat though, they spent 16 hours on an airplane from Melbourne, Australia. Had a great visit with my mom and the rest of the family. As usual, it was too short. :( But, I'm back to scouting deals for you!

Welcome to Coupon Gossip!

So, why did I create yet ANOTHER coupon blog? Well, I wanted to showcase four things I couldn't find anywhere else.

1. I want to create a site that talks about the unadvertised bargains! We have some really great sites handling matching up the advertised sales with our coupons, but nothing out there just dedicated to the sales we should gossip about.

2. After running this blog for about a month, I think there is a need for a open forum discussion board to get ideas passed quickly among couponers. This idea is the brainchild of Jennifer H. (who is a voice of sanity for me). So, here is a new goal for this blog! Let's rock the Discussion Board!

3. When I started couponing, I was frustrated and NOT SURE if the item on sale was a good price or not! We all the stores jockey their prices often so it's hard to keep track. Well, I've created a spreadsheet that will help with this problem.

4. Lastly, I can't find a good coupon site that talks about how to save money feeding our four-legged family members. I want to put together a place where we can all share how to save money when feeding our pets!
