No posts for a few days

I am leaving for California in the morning to help care for my mom, who is ill. I probably won't be posting till next week (unless I run across some awesome deal while I'm there). Please keep my mom in your prayers and I hope you find lots of good deals while I'm gone.

Various Pepperidge Farms coupons

I received an email today from Pepperidge Farms with a link to a coupon for 40c Pepperidge Farms Whole Grain bread. The banner said very specifically in the email that the coupon was for subscribers only. When I clicked, it did take me to a place to enter my email. After I had printed the coupon(s) (its a bricks - so printed 2), their home page has links for:

$1 off Pepperidge Farms Naturals snack crackers
75c off Goldfish crackers (you may have printed this one already
55c off Pepperidge Farms Puff Pastry Turnovers (use at Fred Meyer this week!)
55c off any Pepperidge Farms bread

If you aren't registered, I'm pretty sure it was short and sweet. The 40c co isn't much, but possibly with a doubler.....?

Kohl's Cares For Kids Scholarships

Kohl's has an awesome program that puts money back into the community, called Kohl's Cares For Kids. The sale of the children's books ($5 each) and the matching stuffed animals (also $5 each) is what funds the program.

One of the things that is done is that Kids Who Care program, which recognizes and rewards young volunteers, ages 6-18. This year, they will be recognizing 2,100 kids (at least one from each store) and rewarding them with either $50 gift cards, or scholarships ranging from $1,000 to $10,000. Unfortunately for me, employees children are not eligible.

To fill out the nomination form go here. Once the nominator has registered, he/she will begin by filling out a form with the child's name, etc. Then there are essays about what volunteer work the child has completed. It's prety simple, really.

If your child wins, please let me know!

Scotties 50c coupon

I just received a email from Scotties Tissue with a coupon for 50c off your next purchase of Scotties Tissue. It's valid on any one Scotties 60-264 count single or multi-pack. Even though it's a bricks coupon, it only let me print one and it's good thru 3/25/10. This would a great coupon if Scotties tissues go on sale for $1 at Albertsons.

Ingredient Archive - Earthbound Farm

Next time you have a brain-freeze on what to fix for dinner, or see a fresh item at a good price that you would like to buy, try the Earthbound Farm Ingredient Archive. If you've never been to their website, it's pretty informative.

For example, this week Fred Meyer has asparagus on sale for a great price ($1.28/lb, I THINK). Click on the Ingredient Archive and up comes an alphabetical list of fruits and veggies. Click on asparagus and and there are links to 7 recipes that range from soup to main dish to veggie alone as well as a write-up about the vegetable. While this is an organic website, you don't have to buy organic to make the dishes (I won't anyway). I'm thinking about adding shrimp to the linguine with asparagus recipe to have an "all-in-one" meal tonight.

So, next time you're looking for a recipe, try this site. Recipes are from chef's, and if you like preparation videos, they have those too.

Earthbound Farm coupon at Delicious Living

Head over to Delicous Living's eCoupon site for 3 pages of coupons that include $1/2 Earthbound Farm products, 50c on Minute Rice Ready-to-Serve, various Chef's Requested meats (found at Walmart, I believe), 50c on Skinny Water (that name cracks me up!), $1 on Terra Chips and $1 on Garden of Eatin' products. If you have never printed from this site, you will need to download a plug in. It's nice to see more coupons for healthier products!

Del Monte Fruit Coupons

I got an email from Del Monte this morning, with some great coupons on their fruit products. For a $1/3 Fruit Naturals coupon, go here. For a $1/3 SuperFruit cups coupon, go here. For a $1 coupon on Orchard Select or SunFresh Refrigerated Glass jar, go here. And finally, for a $1 coupon on any one Fruit Bowl Cup, go here. These are all bricks coupons, so you can print them twice.

The Fruit Naturals frequently go on sale at Albertsons for $1, so with a doubler, you could possibly get them 3/$1. I'm not very familiar with the prices on the other products, so can't comment. If you see any of these for a great price, please let us know! It's always nice to have some fruit coupons to help the budget.

Thanks to Sami for sending me her email and reminding me to post this!

Fred Meyer Apparel, Shoes & Accessories Clearance 70% off

Starting Sunday (2/21) thru Saturday 2/27, all apparel, shoes and accessories clearance will be an additional 70% off the lowest marked price at Fred Meyer. In the past, I've found some GREAT deals at these sales at Fred's. I recommend going Sunday (morning if you can) for the best selection, but that's not to say the perfect thing for YOU won't still be there later. I've never tried going on Saturday and asking for items to be put on hold, so I don't know if that's a possibility. Nothing ventured, nothing gained though, so you might give that a try.

David Sunflower Seeds - $20 "David Dollars"

With baseball, softball and lacrosse seasons upon us, this sounds like a great offer!

Buy 20 bags of 14.5 oz or 16 oz David Sunflower seeds. Send the upcs and the form from here. Get $20 David Dollars to spend in the sporting goods department of Walmart. No CRT (cash register tape) required. Postmark by 9/17/10. NO LIMIT, though only 20 bags may be submitted on any 1 form.

They even have an online coupon ($1/2) to get you started! Or, look on page 136 of the March 26th issue of All You Magazine (found only at Walmart) for a $1 coupon and the same rebate form. I think Albertson's puts these on sale for $1 on occasion, so watch for those sales! I have no idea how much a bag costs at Walmart.

Kohl's $10 off $20 purchase coupon

On the top, front page of today's Idaho Statesman is a bright blue Kohl's coupon. It's for $10 off any $20 purchase, valid 2/10 - 2/20/10. It is good during the scratch-off event for Kohl's card holders for 15, 20 or 30% off your purchase (scratch-off event starts tomorrow 2/10). You don't have to have a Kohl's card to use the $10 off $20 coupon.

It might be worth the 75c to go purchase the paper. I got one at work, then went to Jackson's and noticed the coupons were also on the newstand copies. As always, the back does say "limit 1 coupon per customer". If you plan to get multiple coupons, please plan to visit Kohl's on multiple days, because we will only be able to honor one coupon per visit.

Test Drive a 2011 Kia Sorrento

Test drive a 2011 Kia Sorrento, get a $25 prepaid Visa card. Yep, you read that right! How do you do it? Go here and fill out and print the form. Take it to your local Kia dealer (Dennis Dillon on Orchard/Freeway) or Nampa Kia (near the Idaho Center). Test drive the car and have the dealer sign it. Mail it in and you'll get a $25 Visa card. It's that simple! When I go, I generally tell the salesman that I'm not interested in buying right now - maybe a year from now. The dealers don't want to put extra miles on their cars, so they usually just sign the form. Sometimes though, you do have to drive. Test drive between 2/8/10 and 3/15/10. Make sure you fill out the form with the information of the person who will be doing the test drive. One per household.

If you are an old-time frugal person like me, you remember the days, just a few years ago, when it seemed like every car manufacturer was doing a promotion like this. I remember getting the first Shrek video for test driving a car, getting a Staples gift card for a test drive (a Saturn I think it was), plus a few gift certificates at giftcertificates.com (mazda) that I used to get gift cards for Foot Locker for my son. I sure have missed those days.

If this interests you, you are going to want to jump on it, because there are only a limited number of forms and once they are gone, the offer is generally pulled.

Thanks to RefundCents for the heads up on this offer.

Walgreens Free Blood Glucose Test

As featured on the Oprah Winfrey show, get a free blood glucose test at select Walgreens from Feb. 5-18, 2010. Visit Walgreens' site here for the consent form and info on which locations are participating. Here in Boise, it's the 24 hour store on Milwaukee and Fairview (208) 375-2825. There is also an online risk indicator survey you can use to see if you are at risk for diabetes. I recommend everyone at least taking the online survey, and following up with an actual test. Remember, it's free!!!!

What an awesome offer!!!!!!!!!!! Call the store and find out what you need to do to participate and when.

Restaurant Review - Jalapeno's Bar & Grill

I tried a new restaurant this past Friday (ok, so it was an excuse to write another review) - Jalapeno's Bar & Grill. It's next to the Boy Scout office on Franklin (where Lone Star ? used to be) near Maple Grove.

I did not go during the noon hour - it was about 1:30 when I finally got off work and the restaurant was not busy at all. I think I only saw 4 other tables being occupied in the area I was seated in. The hostess was very friendly and explained the special to me, which is what I decided on. That was the Chicken Flautas, (two flour tortillas filled with shredded chicken, fried and topped with a white cheese sauce). While waiting, I snacked on chips, salsa and bean dip. The salsa, to me, tasted like tomato paste. Nothing like a fresh pico and not chunky. I requested a green sauce and I didn't care for it at all. The bean dip was good though!

The flautas were different, with the white cheese sauce over them. Not sure I would order them again. The folks at nearby table were talking to the manager (owner?) about how wonderful the food was. I will probably give them another try someday, before I completely avoid them, but I can say right now, this isn't my favorite mexican restaurant.

They offer Certified Angus Beef in their beef dishes. That could be why the prices are higher than the mexican restuarants I normally frequent. Their lunch menu ranged from a one item speedy lunch at $6.45 to Fajitas for $8.50. Dinner prices of course are higher. They also have a restaurant in Nampa, next to Staples on Caldwell Blvd. You can see their menu on their website at www.jalapenosidaho.com. The prices are higher on the menu they gave me to take with me than on the website.

Fred Meyer Upcoming Catlina

I was digging thru the coupon basket at the grocery entrance at the Meridian Fred Meyer and came across this catalina notice.

Purchase Kraft RANCH or ITALIAN salad dressing (16 oz or larger) between 2/5 and 2/28.

Buy 2 - get $1 catalina or
Buy 3 - get $2 catalina or
Buy 4 - get $3 catalina good on your next purchase.

I didn't find any coupons that we could use on these items, but the offer is good all month, basically, so there is still hope. If this interests you, don't purchase till 2/5 (Friday). Frequently, the same catalina offers are going on at Albertsons - I haven't seen a notice yet.
